Does tattoo removal hurt?

Tattoo removal hurts less than getting a tattoo – the sensation of the laser light on skin produces a slightly uncomfortable tingle with a bit of heat. This sensation may last up to an hour. You will experience slight swelling and or redness after the treatment but this will resolve in less than an hour in most cases. Tattoos may blister or bleed for a few days after treatment but that is completely normal. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may occur after laser treatment but will resolve between 6-12 months. We advise avoiding the sun, tanning beds and discontinuing any topical prescriptions for a week prior to treatment. High SPF sunscreens are encouraged as well. Please treat the area delicately following your treatment by keeping it covered and moist with spring water gel and allow it to breathe for a few hours at night. Gentle washing with mild soap and water will help recovery but do not soak, shave, scrub or exfoliate the area.
