How it Works

Laser light is targeted to specific cells in the skin and stimulate cell turnover, and smoothing. There are two different kinds of laser resurfacing; non-ablative laser resurfacing and ablative laser resurfacing. Non-ablative laser resurfacing like Fraxel Dual uses two different wavelengths to trigger the skin to produce new collagen while the other will attach itself to pigment and exfoliate damaged cells. This method has been very effective for reducing discoloration issues. The lasers used are fractional, meaning not all the skin is treated at once, but the skin is able to heal quickly allowing for a faster and less risky recovery. It’s gentle enough to be used on delicate skin in more sensitive areas like the neck.   Ablative laser resurfacing, such as C02 laser, Active FX or Deep FX, have a longer recovery period. We use CO2RE® from Syneron Candela, a versatile fractional CO2 system that enables us to precisely target and effectively treat the skin’s surface, middle, and deep dermal levels.

Yes, choosing the right laser and the right treatment for your unique skin and complexion will be determined by our specialists. Skin color does factor into laser selection. Fraxel is most effective on those with fair skin.

Does it hurt?

Laser resurfacing feels like tiny, warm little pokes. We ensure your skin will be numbed before treatment begins to lessen any discomfort.

How long is the recovery time?

Your specific skin condition, desired result and the technique that is used will all play a role in your recovery time. Typically, you may experience slight redness and swelling for two or three days after treatment. Minimizing sun exposure is highly encouraged as well as using a broad spectrum UVA and UVB sunblock if you can’t avoid the sun. Light exercise is okay after three days and unrestricted exercise after one week is acceptable.
